April
09, 2010 ART - MUSIC - VERSE | TRINA PARKS | “Le vierge, le vivace et le bel aujourd'hui...” | 04/09 - 04/11/10
The Arts come together to celebrate the birth of Modernism in Paris and New York. As 19th century poets begin to stretch conventional artistic boundaries, the painters, sculptors and composers follow in quick pursuit.
This unique program, anchored by Shakespeare's philosophical verse, includes the cutting edge poems of Mallarme and Poe, and music of Dvorak, Franck, Faure, Poulenc and D'Indy. Headlining the performance are a trio of acclaimed musicians: pianist David C. Leighton, clarinetist Neil Rynston, and cellist Larry Lenske, with choreography and dance by special guest artist Trina Parks.
Pianist David C. Leighton is the Conductor and Artistic Director of the Woodstock Chamber Orchestra. Clarinetist Neil Rynston, a graduate of Oberlin Conservatory, presides over the New York chamber ensemble Vista Lyrica. Larry Lenske is the former principal cellist for the San Francisco Opera, National Ballet of Canada, Chicago Chamber Orchestra and the Vivaldi Traveling Virtuosi of New York. Trina Parks graduated from New York's School of Performing Arts with a major in Modern Dance and has worked with numerous dance companies in the United States, Europe and the Far East.
Under vaulted ceilings and natural light, the audience and performers share a superb performance space with the gallery's contemporary works of art. Admission is free.
