"Brahms Meets Rauschenberg," a free concert in celebration of the blending of the art of music, and the music of art, will be held on the weekend of May 16-17, 2009, at the Michael H. Lord Gallery, 1090 N. Palm Canyon Drive.
"Pairing great art with classical music is like pairing fine wine with fine food," said gallery owner Michael Lord. "This is the first in our series of community events in our wonderful new gallery in Palm Springs."
"Brahms meets Rauschenberg" features a trio of acclaimed musicians, pianist Martin Perry, clarinetist Neil Rynston, and cellist Larry Lenske performing chamber music of Johannes Brahms and Vincent d'Indy. "We see our contribution to the culture of this community as more than just a conventional art gallery." Lord said. "We plan to have more events like this throughout the year."
Larry Lenske, a part-time Palm Springs resident, is the former principal cellist for the San Francisco Opera, National Ballet of Canada, Chicago Chamber Orchestra and the Vivaldi Travelling Virtuosi of New York. He and pianist Martin Perry were both educated at New York's Juilliard School of Music. Clarinetist Neil Rynson, a graduate of Oberlin Conservatory, presides over the New York chamber ensemble Vista Lyrica.
"The Arts are especially relevant these days when they are enjoyed side by side. Each gives something to the other, stimulating new involvements," said Lenski. "For me, it's all about bringing the Arts experience to life and sharing it with the community."
